All establishments in Marbella take credit and debit cards. But even though you won?t have problems paying for your purchases by card it is a good idea to carry some cash and small change around with you.

At present, in Marbella like in any other place in Spain, all businesses will take credit and debit cards; they are in fact the most common type of payment in the shops, restaurants and hotels?
This is really practical as it means you then don?t need to carry a lot of cash around with you during your shopping trip.

All the businesses in Marbella will ask for photo ID when you want to pay by card, whether it?s your Passport or driving license, this is to make sure that you are the owner of the card. This is a good security measure, so make sure that you always have your ID on you, even if you have a chip and pin card, otherwise you may not be able to make the payment.
Normally at the cash register or on the entrance doors to the establishment, you will see a sticker displaying the types of cards that are accepted; in any case you can always ask the shop assistant or waiter if you have any doubts.
Credit and debit cards can also be used to withdraw cash from the cash machines that are dotted around Marbella, but in some cases you will be charged a commission or charge.
Before confirming and accepting the transaction the machine will let you know what the charge will be, if there is one, giving you the option to confirm or cancel the transaction.

The cash machines are identified according to the group they belong to as well as the bank they are associated with.
In Spain there are 3 main cash machine groups: Servired, Telebanco 4B and Euro6000. The best way to avoid commissions is to only use your card in machines from the right group.

It is also a great idea to have the number of your credit card written down, along with the expiry date and the CVV security code.
If there are any problems or you have to report it as stolen or lost, this could come in very handy.
If you lose your card, keep calm and follow the instructions found in the section link: (lost-credit card, have you lost your credit card?).
Normally a call to your bank or the card issuer (Visa, MasterCard, American Express?) is enough to cancel your debit or credit card and avoid any problems.

You will also find a list of helpful telephone numbers in the section link :( telephones-notification-loss, notification of loss), this is useful information that you should keep on you at all times during your holidays in Marbella.
