Fifth International Jazz Festival in Marbella

The last time The International Jazz Festival in Marbella, Spain has taken place in 2006 for the fifth time. It offered it´s visitors more than 100 different concerts.

Host of the festival taking place from May 5th - 14th, was the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Marbella. So for once more, Marbella was transformed into the metropole of jazz. After its previous success, for it´s fifth anniversay a very special poster was issued.

The festival was enriched with gospel and tanz with different musical origines. The concert started with the spectacular show of the dutch band "Just Him". We are looking forward to the next festival and all its highlights.

Artists to highlight:

Arturo Sandoval, born in Artemisa, Cuba on November 6th, 1949. Still a child, he learned to play the trumpet and with only 12 years he was already member of a band. Later he studiet classic trumpet and soon he felt his liking for Jazz in general and for Dizzy Gillespie in particular.

Then we would like to distinguish another artist, Diane Joan Schuur, who was born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1953. The singer, who is blind since birth, grew up in Auburn. The girl started to sing at the tender age of 12 years, in the 2 following she learned to know all the repetoire of Dinah Washington. Then she taught herself ith a lot of enthusiasm the piano.

Benny Golson, Philadelphia 1929, has converted himself in one of the musicians, composers and arrangers of jazz the most important and influencial of our days. Although learning the piano first, Benny decided at 14 for the Saxophon to be his instrument.

Much before improvisation was in fashion, Sun Ra and his Arkestra was practicing just that. Many names were given to this renommated band like: The Solar Arkestra, The Band From Outer Space and The Astro-Intergalactic-Infinity Arkestra.
